Zero Tolerance Policy: Is Commandeering Children the New Norm?

Never have I seen a story covered so frequently or as thoroughly as Trump's Zero Tolerance Policy.  This policy has been the talk of the town since it has been gaining exponential news coverage.  New reports of pictures and audio from inside the facilities further the unease one gets when thinking about this evil situation.  I initially wanted to focus on only one article and analyze it carefully, but because of the importance of this issue, I have chosen several from various authors.  Below are 6 different Times Opinion Columnists who have wrote about this immigration policy - many writing more than one article on this tragedy!

Casa Padre, the holding facility for minors in the state of Texas, boasts some intriguing features- concrete floors and cells for children, emergency Mylar blankets for warmth, and a mural of President Trump with an inscription that reads, "Sometimes by losing a battle you find a new way to win the war."  This holding cell has been a stop for over 1,995 children in the past 6 weeks alone.  These children, as young as 2 and as old as 17, have been commandeered as if they were object instead of people.

If I haven't convinced you to read the aforementioned articles yet, here are several outright lies and blatant statements from the trump administration defending their approach to the current immigration crisis.  (All quotes can be found in the articles)
  • "They are bound by law to separate families who cross the border illegally"
  • "Its the Democrats fault for being weak and ineffective with Boarder Security and Crime" - Trump
  • "We do not have a policy of separating families at the border. Period" - Kirsjen Nielsen
  • "It was a simple decision by the administration to have a zero-tolerance policy for illegal entry, period" - Stephen Miller
  • "The children will be taken care of- put into foster care or whatever" - John Kelly
  • "Persons who violate the law of our nation are subject o prosecution. I would cite you to the Apostle Paul and his clear and wise command in Romans 13, to obey the laws of the government because God has ordained the government for his purposes" - Jeff Sessions

The importance of this issue should be recognized by everyone - whether you are in-favor of this policy or against.  Groundbreaking events have been happening and it's easy to blink and miss them.  Trump's lies surrounding this Zero Tolerance immigration policy; call for a 6th military branch, the Space Force; and termination of the US's position on the United Nation's Human Rights Council are all causes for concern.  I'm not sure any of those other reasons are as important as the current fight for immigration, but they are surely important (read: distractions) since Trump has been preoccupied with them instead.

UPDATE: As of 3pm on June 20th, President Trump flexed his power by signing an Executive order relating to the immigration crisis.  However, this policy is not full of hope like what initially may meet the eye.  Trump's order allows families to stay together while being: incarcerated for an indefinite amount of time, and subject to the penalties of "improper entry".  Trump's order doesn't help families, but merely hurts them in more discrete ways.  His order calls for the creation of new detainment facilities to house these families.  These so called "detainment facilities" are eerily similar to the concentration camps in Nazi Germany and the previous Japanese internment camps in the United States.
